UI Students Visit the Coordinating Ministry for Political Affairs
Daftar SbmptnA number of students from the University of Indonesia (UI) conducted an educational visit to the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (Kemenko Polhukam) on Wednesday (November 20, 2025). This activity aimed to increase students’ understanding of public policy, national political dynamics, and the government’s role in maintaining stability and the rule of law in Indonesia.
The visit involved more than 50 students from various faculties, including the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, the Faculty of Law, and the Faculty of Administrative Sciences. The students were welcomed directly by Kemenko Polhukam officials for an interactive discussion session and policy presentation.
The Visit Program Coordinator, Dr. Andi Wijaya, emphasized the importance of this activity for the students. “This visit provides an opportunity for students to understand the policy-making process, the challenges faced by the government, and how politics and law are interconnected in decision-making,” said Dr. Andi. During the visit, students were provided with explanations on various national policies, ranging from politics, security, and law, to strategies for addressing contemporary issues.
Kemenko Polhukam officials emphasized the ministry’s role as a policy coordinator across ministries and agencies, ensuring the implementation of government programs is effective and in accordance with the law. “As students, you have a responsibility to understand how policies are made, the challenges the government faces, and their impact on society. This visit provides a real-world perspective,” said an official from the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs.
The discussion session at the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs was interactive. Students were given the opportunity to ask ministry officials directly about the policies they had studied in college. The students’ questions centered on current issues such as regional political stability, youth participation in democracy, and the role of law in government oversight.
One student, Rina Putri, said, “This visit has been insightful. As students, we can see firsthand how the theories learned on campus are applied to real-world policies. This discussion has greatly motivated us to be more active in political and legal issues.” The Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs official emphasized that political and legal education for the younger generation is key to the sustainability of democracy and good governance.
The ministry strives to develop a young generation that is not only critical but also has a deep understanding of government policies and processes. “We hope that students can become agents of change who understand the rights and obligations of citizens and are able to contribute positively to society,” said the official. This visit exemplifies the synergy between universities and the government to develop a young generation with extensive knowledge of public policy.
The University of Indonesia is committed to continuing to encourage students to actively participate in educational programs like this. The Rector of the University of Indonesia, Prof. In his remarks, Dr. Arief Hidayat stated, “Collaboration with the ministry provides students with hands-on experience that cannot be gained solely from classroom theory. This activity equips students to understand real-world challenges and opportunities.” The UI students’ visit to the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs is expected to encourage active participation by the younger generation in national issues, raise political awareness, and shape competent future leaders.
Dr. Andi Wijaya added, “Through this experience, students not only learn theory, but also understand the complexity of policymaking and the importance of cooperation between government institutions to achieve common goals.” The visit by University of Indonesia students to the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs demonstrated the importance of practical political and legal education.
By understanding national policies, political challenges, and legal implementation, the younger generation can be better prepared to face future challenges and contribute to national development.
