Facing 3 Social Issues, Tasikmalaya Strengthens the Economy and Digitalizes MSMEs

Daftarsbmptn.comThe Tasikmalaya City Government is further strengthening its efforts to address three major social issues that have hampered the community’s economic progress. The main focus of this strategy is strengthening the local economy through the development of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and the implementation of digitalization in the business world. This step aims to create new job opportunities, promote community welfare, and reduce social inequality.

According to the Mayor of Tasikmalaya, Dr. H. Muhammad Yusuf, there are three main social issues that need to be addressed immediately: unemployment, economic inequality, and disparity in access to technology. All three are interconnected and require a comprehensive approach to achieve sustainable solutions.

Addressing Unemployment Through MSME Empowerment

One of the main focuses of this policy is empowering the MSME sector. Tasikmalaya is known as a region with great potential in various small and medium business sectors, such as processed food, handicrafts, and textiles. However, despite this significant potential, MSMEs in Tasikmalaya often face obstacles in marketing, access to capital, and efficient business management.

To this end, the city government is collaborating with various parties to increase the capacity of MSMEs through skills training, providing access to capital, and business mentoring. One effort is introducing digital platforms that enable MSMEs to reach a wider market, even internationally.

“Digitalization is key to MSME development. By utilizing e-commerce platforms, marketing applications, and social media, MSMEs can expand their market network, even beyond the Tasikmalaya region,” said Mayor Yusuf in his remarks at a recent MSME digitalization training event.

Strengthening the Local Economy and Creating New Jobs

In addition to empowering MSMEs, the city government is also encouraging the development of other economic sectors, such as agriculture and tourism. This approach aims to create more accessible jobs for the community, especially young people, who have been the primary victims of the high unemployment rate.

Tasikmalaya, with its natural beauty and rich local culture, has great potential in the tourism sector. The local government is committed to developing a community-based tourism sector that is not only economically profitable but also provides social benefits to the surrounding community.

Meanwhile, the agricultural sector, which remains the primary sector for the majority of the population, is also a key focus of economic policy. The city government is collaborating with various institutions to introduce more efficient agricultural technologies, such as the use of automated irrigation systems, data-driven agriculture, and the use of technology to accelerate the distribution of agricultural products.

Improving Access to Technology for All Levels of Society

The issue of unequal access to technology is a major challenge in Tasikmalaya. Many people, especially those living in rural areas, still have limited access to the internet and digital technology that can support their economic progress.

To this end, the Tasikmalaya government is collaborating with internet service providers and technology institutions to expand internet access throughout the city, including remote areas. This program also includes technology training for the community so they can utilize the internet and digital devices to improve their quality of life and businesses.

A Better Future with a Digital Economy

By combining empowering MSMEs, strengthening the local economy, and increasing access to technology, Tasikmalaya hopes to create new jobs, reduce unemployment, and address existing social disparities. This policy is expected to encourage inclusive and sustainable economic growth and establish Tasikmalaya as a model city ready to compete in the digital era.

“With this step, we want to ensure that every Tasikmalaya resident, whether living in the city or in rural areas, has equal opportunities to progress and develop,” added Mayor Yusuf.

Going forward, Tasikmalaya is expected to become a center of digital economic growth in West Java, with an economy based on MSMEs and digital technology that can positively impact all levels of society.
